PS KELLO HARSMA CALLS FOR STRONGER PARTNERSHIPS TO IMPROVE EDUCATION OUTCOMES IN ASALs REGIONS
Kello Harsama today attended the dissemination of the Baseline Survey Findings for the Education and Life Skills Development Programme conducted by Chalan Foundation, where he highlighted the need for sustained investment in education partnerships and evidence-based interventions to improve learning outcomes across Kenya’s ASALs regions.
Speaking during the event, the Principal Secretary noted that the survey findings align closely with Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and provide critical insights into the challenges and opportunities facing learners in marginalized and arid areas.
He said the findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen learner retention, improve academic performance, and support smooth transitions from school to higher education and employment opportunities.
He also emphasized that education remains a key driver of socio-economic transformation and called on government agencies, development partners, and non-governmental organizations to work together in ensuring that all learners acquire relevant life skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
He further noted that targeted interventions in ASALs counties are essential in addressing disparities in access to quality education, particularly among vulnerable learners.
The Education and Life Skills Development Programme aims to enhance learning opportunities and equip young people with practical skills that support both academic growth and future employability. The baseline survey is expected to guide future policy decisions and programme implementation through data-driven approaches.
Stakeholders attending the dissemination forum reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening education systems and empowering learners across underserved communities in Kenya.
