President Ruto Commissions Etio Dam, a transformative irrigation project in Keiyo North.
President William Ruto officially commissioned the Etio Dam in Kapteren, Keiyo North Constituency, marking a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and improving rural livelihoods.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Ruto praised the timely completion of the project and emphasized its potential to transform the region’s economy. The completion of Phase I of the Etio Dam Rehabilitation and Expansion Project, comes as a major boost for over 8,000 households in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The dam has a storage capacity of 160 million litres and is set to irrigate more than 2,500 acres of land.
The dam will facilitate the large-scale cultivation of high-value crops such as passion fruits, avocados, cabbages, kales, and potatoes—helping to create jobs, enhance food security, and increase household incomes.
The Etio Dam project is part of the government’s broader agenda to invest in sustainable water infrastructure, boost agricultural production, and empower local communities through economic opportunities.
