Government, AfDB in Talks to Boost Development in ASAL Regions ‎

The Government has opened discussions with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to establish a new partnership that will accelerate development in the country’s Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) regions.

‎The Principal Secretary today met with AfDB senior officials, in a strategic session that explored areas of collaboration aimed at transforming ASAL communities.

‎The proposed partnership will focus on cross-border integration, peacebuilding, food security, and inclusive economic growth, with a view to addressing the longstanding challenges faced by ASAL counties.

‎Speaking after the meeting, the PS noted that the collaboration has the potential to unlock new opportunities for communities often left behind in national development.

‎ “This engagement with AfDB is a step towards building resilience and prosperity in ASAL regions. By investing in food systems, infrastructure, and peace initiatives, we can uplift millions of lives and strengthen regional stability,” the PS said.

‎AfDB officials reaffirmed the Bank’s readiness to work with Kenya, highlighting the importance of channeling resources into projects that directly benefit vulnerable communities.

‎The partnership is expected to complement ongoing government efforts and align with national strategies to restore ecosystems, enhance livelihoods, and drive sustainable growth in marginalized regions.
