DEVELOPMENT PARTNERS MEET TO ADVANCE CROSS-BORDER PEACEBUILDING FRAMEWORK

Development partners recently convened in Nairobi for a breakfast meeting aimed at developing a coordinated framework to guide peacebuilding initiatives across border communities in Kenya’s ASALs regions.

The proposed ASALs and Cross-Border Community Integration and Sustainable Peace Programming Framework was envisioned as a collaborative platform grounded in partnership, joint planning, and inclusive participation. The framework seeks to strengthen coordination among stakeholders by harmonizing existing and upcoming interventions, promoting integrated programming approaches, and enhancing resource mobilization to address persistent challenges such as cattle rustling and related conflicts affecting cross-border communities.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders and development partners committed to advancing sustainable peace and regional integration, including the IGAD Head of Mission to the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Fatuma Adan; Director of Programmes at Life & Peace Institute(LPI), Ms. Jody Henderson; and the CEO of Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC), Dr. Idle Farah, among other partners.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of collective action, strategic partnerships, and coordinated interventions in fostering lasting peace, stability, and sustainable development across ASALs and border communities.
